Özet
Ülkemizde bir çok el sanatlarının varlığı bilinmekle beraber özellikle son yıllarda gereken önemin verilmemesinden dolayı bazı el sanatları yok olmaya başlamıştır. Bunlardan biri de sedef kakmacılık sanatıdır. Günümüzde özellikle Gaziantep ilinde uğraşılan bu sanat yapıldığı yöreye ekonomik gelir sağlaması ve kültürel değerleri yansıtması açısından önemlidir. Sedef kakmacılık sanatında hammadde olarak ceviz, sedef ve madeni teller kullanılmaktadır. Desen olarak ise Selçuklu ve Osmanlı dönemi motifleri tercih edilmektedir. Yörede kakma tekniğiyle yapılan bu sanatla birçok ürün üretilmektedir. Bu araştırma ile Gaziantep yöresinde sedef kakmacılığının yapım teknikleri üretilen ürünler ve özellikleri belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca bu sanatla uğraşanların bazı özellikleri de saptanmıştır.

Although it is known that handicrafts are present in our country, particularly, in the last years, certain handicrafts began to disappear because of the lack of importance. One of them is mother-of-pearl craft. Nowadays, this craft which is worked on especially in Gaziantep, is important both from the point of view of providing economic income and from the point of view of reflecting cultural values. Walnut, rue and metallic strands are used as raw material in the mother-of- pearl craft. As for design, motife of Seljuk and Ottoman periods are prefered. In this region, lots of products are produced with this craft which is made by the technique of inlay work. With this research, producing techniques of mother-of-pearl, its products and characteristics were made determinate. Also, some characteristics of people who worked on with this craft were determinated.
