ÖZET Yüksek Lisans Tezi ZİHİNSEL ENGELLİ BİR ÇOCUĞA SAHİP AİLE BİREYLERİNİN KAYGI DÜZEYLERİNİN İNCELENMESİ Ayşegül İÇÖZ Ankara Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü Ev Ekonomisi (Çocuk Gelişimi) Anabilim Dalı Danışman: Doç. Dr. Gülen BARAN Bu araştırma, engelli bir çocuğa sahip ailelerin (anne, baba ve engelli olmayan kardeş), engelli çocuğun varlığına ilişkin kaygı düzeylerinin hangi alanlarda yoğunlaştığını, bu yoğunlaşmanın nedenlerinin neler olduğunun belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya engelli bireylere hizmet veren özel eğitim kurumlarına devam eden beş-onbir yaşlan arasında olan, Down Sendromu ve Down Sendromu dışında zihinsel engel tanısı konmuş ellidört engelli çocuğun anne, babası ile dokuz-onüç yaşlan arasında olan normal kardeşleri dahil edilmiştir. Araştırmada engelli çocukların kendileri ve aileleri hakkında bazı genel bilgileri içeren“Genel Bilgi Formu”ile aile bireylerinin engelli çocuğun varlığına ilişkin kaygı düzeyini belirlemek amacıyla“Aile Kaygı ve Endişe Düzeyini ölçme Aracı (Questionnaire on Resources and Stress)”kullanılmıştır. Veriler Varyans Analizi ve Duncan Testi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda annelerin kaygı düzeyinde engelli çocuğun problem durumunun, annenin yaşının, ilk tıbbi tanı zamanının, engelli çocuğun eğitime başlama yaşının (P<0.05); babaların kaygı düzeyindeengelli çocuğun problem durumunun, doğum sırasının, kardeş sayısının (PO.05), baba mesleğinin (PO.01), ilk tıbbi tanı zamanının, tanı hakkında bilgilendirilme durumunun (P<0.05); kardeşlerin kaygı düzeyinde engelli çocuğun yaşının, problem durumunun (PO.05), kardeş yaşının (PO.01) alt boyutlardan alman puanlarda farklılık yarattığı ortaya konmuştur. Annelerin, babaların ve engelli olmayan kardeşlerin engelli çocuğun varlığına ilişkin kaygı düzeylerinin karşılaştırıldığında ise, PO.05 düzeyinde farklılık olduğu ortaya konmuştur. ABSTRACT Master Thesis A STUDY ON ANXIETY LEVELS OF FAMILY MEMBERS WITH MENTALLY RETARDED CHILDREN Ayşegül İÇÖZ Ankara University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Home Economics (Child Development) Supervisor : Associate Prof. Dr. Gülen BARAN This research has been carried out to study the fields of impact of the various forms and degrees of anxiety caused to the members of families (mother, father, brothers) and sister(s)) by the existence of a mentally handicapped individual within those families. The research has been conducted with the participation of the mothers, the fathers and the non-handicapped brothers and sisters aged 9-13 of 54 handicapped children with a Down Sendrome or other form of mental handicap and attending special education institutions. Within the frame of this piece of research, we have used a“General Information Form”, aimed at collecting information on the handicapped children and their families, as well as a“Questionnaire on Resources and Stress”, aiming at determining the degree of anxiety caused by the handicapped member to the other members of the family. The data have been obtained with a Variance Analysis and a Duncan Test The results of this research have brought to light that the degrees of anxiety differ, as illustrated below, from one family member to the other according to various parameters:The mother's degree of anxiety varies according to the problematic situation of the handicapped child, the mother's age, the date of the first diagnosis and the age of the handicapped child at the beginning of his/her scolarity (PO.05); the degree of anxiety of the father proved to be varying according to the problematic situation of the child, the number of children the couple has, the birth order of the handicapped child (P<0.05), the father's job (P<0.01), the date of the diagnosis and the way the diagnosis was explaned (P<0.05); and finally, the inbrother's and sister's degree of anxiety varies according to the age of the handicapped child, the problematic situation of the latter (PO.05) and the brother's and sister's age. In the light of those results some advice is given to the parents and relatives of handicapped children. 2001, 120 pages
