ABSTRACT This study was carried out to make the teachers, educators and curriculum developers be familiar with a very important but highly neglected area of language training and testing, language aptitude tests which are used to predict the possible future achievement of the beginners of a foreign ot second language process. The introduction chapter aims at explaining the purpose and the scope of the study. The second chapter outlines the basic characteristics of language, language learning and learners on theoratical bases. The following chapter deals with the historical perspective of the language aptitud^ tests and the present situation of these tests in education. The fourth chapter comprises the application of these tests, using an adapted version of them for Turkish students who are the beginners of English. The concluding chapter summarizes the study, and some suggestions and proposals are also given for the application and development of these tests. -.111 -
