Özet
ÖZET Bu tez çalışması Nobel ödüllü İngiliz yazar William Golding'in tamamlanmış son eseri olan To the Ends of the Earth (1991) adlı üçlemesini konu almaktadır. Daha önce birbirinden bağımsız olarak yayınlanmış Rites of Passage (1980), Close Quarters (1987) ve Fire Down Below (1989) adlı romanların 1991 yılında tek başlık altında toplanmasıyla oluşmuş bu eser üç ana bölümde incelenmiştir. Giriş bölümünde, William Golding'in hayatı ve kariyeri kronolojik düzen içinde incelenmiş ve ortaya koyduğu tüm eserlerinin kısa özetleriyle birlikte eleştirmenlerin bu eserler ve buna paralel olarak Golding hakkındaki görüşlerine yer verilmiştir. Tezin bu bölümünde, yazarın edebi çizgisi ve bunun oluşmasında etkili olan unsurlara ışık tutulması ve bunların teze konu olan eserin incelenmesine temel teşkil etmesi öngörülmüştür. Tezin“To the Ends of the Earth: The Voyage of Human Nature”başlıklı Gelişme bölümünde üçlemeyi meydana getiren romanların her biri ana olay örgüsü temel alınarak tematik çerçevede sembolik öğeler, edebi biçim ve içerdiği referanslar ile birlikte sosyal, politik ve tarihsel perspektif açısından detaylı olarak incelenmiş ve yazarın baş yapıtlarından biri olarak kabul edilen bu önemli esere bir iç bakış sağlanmaya çalışılmıştır. Sonuç bölümünde, William Golding'in hayat felsefesi ve edebi kişiliği arasındaki paralellik bağlamında, incelemesi yapılan eserin ana hatlarına genel bir bakış sağlanmış ve eserde ele alınan temaların Golding'in kariyeri, kişiliği ve gerçek tarihsel süreçle olan bağlantısı ortaya konularak tezin bütününde sağlanan açılımlar sonuçları açısından ele alınmıştır. ABSTRACT This thesis is composed of three main parts based on the study of the English novelist William Golding's last completed work, To the Ends of the Earth (1991) trilogy, a collection of three previously and individually published novels: Rites of Passage (1980), Close Quarters (1987), and Fire Down Below (1989). In the Introduction, Golding's life and literary career are analyzed in chronological order, and along with the brief summaries of his works, the critical consideration devoted to his fiction and himself as a writer is presented. It is anticipated that this part of the study will shed light on the features of Golding's way as a writer which characterize the issues raised in the novel studied in this thesis. In the Development part of the thesis entitled“To the Ends of the Earth: The Voyage of Human Nature,”each of the novels of the trilogy is analyzed in a thematical framework including the literary style of the writer, symbolism and references to other works of literature accompanied by a close study of social, political and historical perspective, through which we hope to provide an insight to this important work regarded as one of Golding's masterpieces. In the Conclusion, in view of the correlation between Golding's philosophy of life and literary outlook, an overview of the issues studied is provided. By revealing the parallelism between the themes identified and the main components of Golding's fiction in general, the perspectives having been made available are discussed in terms of their outcomes.
