öz İNGİLİZCE HAZIRLIK OKULU BULUNAN ÜNİVERSİTELERDE GÖREV YAPMAKTA OLAN İNGİLİZCE OKUTMANLARININ ÖRGÜTSEL STRES FAKTÖRLERİNİN BELİRLENMESİ ÖNKOL, Pınar Esma Yüksek Lisans, Eğitim Bilimleri Bölümü Tez Yöneticisi: Yrd. Doç. Dr. Ahmet OK Eylül 2002, 129 sayfa Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkiye'deki devlet ve özel üniversitelerin İngilizce hazırlık Okullarında görev yapmakta olan ingilizce okutmanlarının örgütsel stres kaynaklarım belirlemek ve toplam stres puanlan ile üniversite türü, toplam okutmanlık deneyimi, şu anda görev yapmakta olduktan üniversitedeki deneyim süresi, yaş ve ders yükü arasında fark olup olmadığına bakmaktır. Çalışmada kullanılan veri toplama aracı 4 farklı araç kullanılarak oluşturulmuştur: Aslan (1995) tarafından geliştirilen örgütsel Sires Anketi, Minnesota Öğretmen Stres Anketi, Kyriacou ve Sutcliffe'in (1978) geliştirdikleri öğretmen Stres Anketi ve Gmelch'in Öğretim Üyesi Stres Anketi. Oluşturulan araç 5 farklı bölgedeki devlet ve özel/vakıf üniversitelerin İngilizce Hazırlık Okulu'nda görev yapan 774 İngilizce okutmanına uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS Paket Programı kullanılarak t-test, ANOVA ve faktör analizi uygulanmıştır. Yapılan faktör analizi sonucunda 73 maddedenoluşan ankette 4 boyut olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Bunlar: örgütten kaynaklanan stress faktörleri, iş ile ilgili faktörler, işteki yetersizliklerden kaynaklanan faktörler ve öğrencilerden kaynaklanan stres faktörleridir. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına gore öğrenci boyutunda yeralan faktörler İngilizce okutmanları için en çok stres yaratan boyuttur. İngilizce okutmanlarının toplam iş tecrübesi ile az tecrübeli ve tecrübeli olma durumuna göre stress puanlarında anlamlı farklar saptanmıştır. Buna ek olarak az tecrübeli ve tecrübeli İngilizce okutmanlarının toplam stres puanlan ve kurumlarındaki iş tecrübeleri arasında da anlamlı farklar ortaya çıkmıştır. Deneklerin yaşlan sözkonusu olduğunda ise 22-29 ile 40 ve üstü deneklerin ve 30-39 ve 40 ve üstü deneklerin toplam stres puanlan ile yaşları arasında anlamlı farklar ortaya çıkmıştır. Sonuç olarak bu çalışma Türkiye'deki İngilizce okutmanlarının örgütsel stres faktörleri ve stress konusunun hizmet içi ve hizmet öncesi programlarda yeralması gereken bir başka boyut olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır.

ABSTRACT ORGANIZATIONAL STRESS FACTORS OF ENGLISH INSTRUCTORS WORKING AT PREPARATORY SCHOOLS OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN TURKEY ÖNKOL, Pınar Esma MSc, Department of Educational Sciences Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmet OK September 2002, 129 pages The aim of the study is to investigate the organizational stress factors of English instructors working at the preparatory schools of public and private universities in Turkey, and to find out whether there are any differences between the organizational stress scores of English instructors in relation to the type of institution they work at, their total teaching experience, working experience at present university, their age and teaching load. The questionnaire used in the study was developed by making use of 4 different instruments: the Organizational Stress Inventory developed by Asian (1995), Minnesota Teacher Stress Inventory, Teacher Stress Inventory developed by Kyriacou and Sutcliffe (1978) and Faculty Stress Inventory by Gmelch (1993) and it was administered to 774 English instructors working at the preparatory schools of public and private universities in 5 different regions of Turkey. mThe data gathered was analyzed with SPSS program, and mainly descriptive statistics, factor analysis, one-way ANOVA and t-test were conducted. The factor analysis showed that there were 4 dimensions in the 73- item questionnaire: stress factors related with the organizational structure, factors intrinsic to work, factors related with the inadequacies at work, and factors related with students. The results showed that the most stressful factors were the items in the student dimension. The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences between the organizational stress scores of novice and junior English instructors in relation to their total teaching experience. There were also statistical significant differences between the organizational stress scores of novice and junior English instructors in relation to their experience in their present institutions. When the age of the subjects were considered, there were statistically significant differences between the English instructors who were 22-29 years old and the ones who were 40 and over, and between the English instructors who were 30-39 years old and the ones who were 40 and over. In conclusion, the results of this study can contribute to the literature on organizational stress factors of English instructors in Turkey. This study also showed that stress is one of the main dimensions that should be included in the pre-service and in-service training programs.
