oz BAŞA ÇIKMA BECERİLERİ PROGRAMININ OTİSTİK ÇOCUĞU OLAN ANNELERİN BAŞA ÇIKMA BECERİLERİ, UMUTSUZLUK VE STRES DÜZEYLERİNE ETKİSİ Tekinalp, Ergüner Bengü Yüksek Lisans, Eğitim Bilimleri Bölümü Tez Yöneticisi: Prof.Dr. Füsun Akkök Aralık 2001, 173 sayfa Otistik çocuğa sahip olan aileler, bir çok sorunla başa çıkmak durumundadırlar. Otistik çocuğun varlığı tüm aileyi etkilemektedir ancak, bakımlarından sorumlu olan kişiler olarak, anneler genellikle diğer aile üyelerinden daha fazla zorluk yaşamaktadırlar. Çocuğun daha fazla bakım ihtiyaçlarının yarattığı stresin yanısıra, anneler, öfke, üzüntü, hayal kırıklığı gibi duygularla da başa çıkmak zorunda kalırlar. Bu çalışma, otistik çocuğu olan annelere yönelik bir başa çıkma becerileri programı oluşturmayı ve bu programın otistik çocuğu olan annelerinbaşa çıkma becerileri, umutsuzluk ve stres düzeylerine etkisini ölçmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Denekler Ankara'da özel eğitime gereksinim duyan çocukların eğitim aldığı bir merkez olan İlgi Özel Eğitim Merkezi'nden seçilmiştir. Bu araştırmaya 10 anne katılmıştır. Deneysel araştırma deseni kullanılmış, deney grubuna sekiz oturumdan oluşan başa çıkma becerileri programı uygulanmıştır. Deney ve kontrol grubu, özürlü Çocuk Anne-Babaların Stres Düzeyini ölçme Aracı, Başa Çıkma Stratejisi ölçeği ve Beck Umutsuzluk ölçeklerinden alınan öntest ve sontest sonuçlarına göre karşılaştırılmıştır. Deney ve kontrol grubu arasındaki farkları ortaya koymak üzere parametrik olmayan istatistiksel yöntemlerden Mann-Whitney U Testi ve Wilcoxon Testi kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlar umutsuzluk ve bir başa çıkma stratejisi olarak sosyal destek arama puanlarında anlamlı farklar olduğunu; kaçınma, problem çözme ve stres puanlarında gruplar arası anlamlı bir farkın olmadığını göstermiştir. Ayrıca, programa katılan annelerle yapılan görüşme sonuçları otistik çocuğa sahip olan anneler için etkili olduğu yönünde ipuçları vermiştir. Tüm bunlardan yola çıkarak, programın, otistik çocuğu olan annelerin yaşamlarına olumlu katkıları olduğu söylenebilir.

ABSTRACT THE EFFECTS OF A COPING SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM ON THE COPING SKILLS, HOPELESSNESS AND STRESS LEVELS OF MOTHERS OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISM Tekinalp, Ergiiner Bengii M.S., Department of Educational Sciences Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Füsun Akkök December 2001, 173 pages Parents of children with autism experience several difficulties with the care of a child with autism. The existence of a child with autism affects the whole family, however, as main caretakers, mothers of children with autism generally experience greater difficulties than the other members of the family. In addition to the stress related to the extra care demands of the child, mothers should also cope with the emotions like anger, despair, disappointment, and grief. iiiThis study aims to create an example of a coping skulls program for mothers of children with autism and has the purpose of exploring the effects of coping skills training program on stress, hopelessness levels and coping skills of mothers. The subjects of the study were from İlgi Special Education Center, which is a special education center for children with autism in Ankara. Ten mothers participated in this study. The experimental design was used, in which two groups were compared on pretest and posttest measures of Questionnaire on Resources and Stress, Coping Strategy Indicator and Beck Hopelessness Scale. The experimental group was given an eight session training program. In order to explore the differences between the two groups, nonparametric statistics, Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon test were used. The results revealed that there were differences in the use of social support as a coping strategy and hopelessness, but there was no difference in the use of avoidance and problem solving as a coping strategy and stress levels between the two groups. Moreover, the interviews conducted with mothers indicated a positive effect of the program on the mothers.
