Alfred Hitchcock, one of the most influential figures in cinema, is widely recognized for the visual language and the atmosphere of suspense he established in his films. In the construction of this atmosphere, movie posters play a critical role as the initial point of contact with the audience. This study aims to analyze the movie posters carrying the visual codes of Hitchcock's cinema through a semiotic lens and to interpret the animated (motion poster) versions of these static designs, created via digital technologies, through shifting layers of meaning. The theoretical framework of the research is grounded in Charles Sanders Peirce's triadic model (icon, index, symbol), which examines the logical relationship between the object and the sign, and Roland Barthes's concepts of denotation and connotation, which enable the reading of the social and cultural myths underlying the visual. Hitchcock posters are approached not merely as simple promotional visuals summarizing the film's narrative structure, but as complex visual texts that appeal to the viewer's subconscious, triggering feelings of fear, curiosity, and the uncanny. In the first phase of the study, selected posters were analyzed within the context of color psychology, typographic hierarchy, compositional balance, and the figure-ground relationship. Utilizing Peirce's semiotic model, the direct and indirect relationships that the visual elements in the posters establish with objects were identified; meanwhile, through Barthes's approach, the secondary meanings and cultural associations these signs evoke in the viewer's mind were examined. The findings demonstrate that suspense in Hitchcock's posters is systematically constructed not only through the subject matter but also via the structural arrangement and symbolic expression of the visual. In the second phase, which constitutes the originality and contemporary relevance of the study, the animation (motion graphics) process is discussed as a practice of meaning transformation. The conversion of classic, static posters into dynamic narratives with a temporal dimension using digital tools is evaluated as a novel 'new media' aesthetic that amplifies the impact of signs. The study aims to observe the semiotic effect on the audience by contrasting the image within the static visual with images carrying motion potential in the animated poster. In this context, animation emerges as a strategy that highlights the 'punctum' points of the poster and prolongs the time the viewer spends reading the visual. Ultimately, this research proposes how classic movie poster design can be reformulated within the dynamics of contemporary digital streaming platforms and social media. It offers both a theoretical and practical perspective on how semiotics can be integrated into creative production processes within the discipline of visual communication design.
