Bundan dolayı, insan gözünün görme hassasiyeti, güneşten gelen ışığın enerjisi, atmosfer geçirgenliği, kara cisim ışıması gibi çeşitli etkenler her dalga boyunda farklı sonuç sağladığından hesaplamalara ağırlıklandırma yapılarak dahil edilmiştir.
Global challenges, such as the ever-increasing world energy demand and the global climate crisis, have become the primary motivation for developing sustainable, economic, and environmentally friendly cooling technologies. The development of new methods is of critical importance for the continuity of ecosystems and human life. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in studies on radiative cooling technologies that provide passive cooling without the need for any external energy source. Passive radiative cooling coatings significantly prevent the absorption of solar thermal energy by exhibiting high reflectivity in the 0.3-2.5 µm wavelength range. Simultaneously, they perform thermal emission in the 8-13 µm spectrum where atmospheric transparency is highest due to their high absorption characteristics. When considering the use of passive radiative cooling coatings on transparent surfaces, high transmittance is required for the visible light spectrum (0.38-0.75 µm). In summary, a radiative coating must demonstrate distinct optical performance characteristics across specific ranges of the spectrum. The optimization process focuses on achieving spectral selectivity through a balance between trasnparency in the visible region, reflectance in the solar region and emissivity in the infrared wavelengths. The effectiveness of these coatings relies on the precise manipulation of electromagnetic wave interactions through several physical mechanisms. Unlike organic-based designs that depend on molecular vibrations, the inorganic multilayer structures developed in this study primarily utilize the principle of multilayer dielectric reflection to achieve high solar rejection. By strategically stacking materials with contrasting refractive indices, the design exploits constructive interference to reflect near-infrared radiation while maintaining transparency in the visible region. Furthermore, the thermal emission is facilitated by the emissivity of the selected inorganic layers within the atmospheric window, ensuring long-term structural stability and resistance to common issues like yellowing or chemical degradation. Various studies on passive radiative cooling coatings exist in the literature. A significant portion of these studies has achieved successful results at thicknesses of 100 µm and above using polymer-based materials with high thermal emission performance, such as Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Since PDMS exhibits effective performance only at high thicknesses, it causes limitations in applications requiring transparency. Furthermore, organic materials like PDMS pose durability disadvantages due to issues such as UV radiation and yellowing. Silver, despite its high cost, has been a frequently preferred material in radiative coatings due to its reflective properties; however, it involves a risk of rapid oxidation when exposed to the outdoor environment. Upon detailed review of literature studies and existing challenges, this project aims to perform inorganic thin-film design optimization for use in radiative cooling coatings. Within the scope of this thesis, optimization studies were conducted to determine the best-performing inorganic thin-film designs in 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12-layer configurations. The Tree-structured Parzen Estimator (TPE) method was utilized to perform these optimizations. By using this algorithm, past data from each new trial was classified as 'good' or 'bad,' ensuring the determination of optimum designs that improve performance within specified limits and conditions. The Transfer Matrix Method (TMM) was employed to numerically model the transmittance, reflectance, and thermal emission performance of the thin-film designs. Results demonstrated that optical performance scaled with the number of layers; however, the 8 layer configuration provides the optimum performance when both optical performance and manufacturing feasibility are considered. To obtain realistic results from the optimization studies, performances were calculated using weighted assessments. Although transparent radiative cooling applications require high transmittance in the visible region, high reflectivity in the solar region, and high emission in the atmospheric window, these factors do not have the same impact at every wavelength. Therefore, variables such as human visual sensitivity, solar irradiance energy, atmospheric transparency, and blackbody radiation were incorporated into the calculations through weighting, as they yield different results at different wavelengths. This model enables the optimization of the designs by considering real world enviromental conditions instead of theoretical scenarios. The Tree-structured Parzen Estimator algorithm was run 20 times for each configuration. Within each run, 20,000 trials were performed, and the optimum results were listed. The algorithm scanned a range of 5-1000 nm to determine layer thicknesses. Since the project goal is to develop a transparent passive radiative cooling coating, the algorithm checked whether the transmittance was lower than 70% after each trial and invalidated designs falling below this threshold. For material selection, the algorithm drew from a pool of 14 materials consisting of dielectrics, semiconductors, and metals. The best design was determined by generating cooling flux graphs for all configurations and comparing the most optimum result of each layer count. This comparative analysis allowed for a comprehensive evaluation of how increasing complexity in the layer stack influences the overall thermal performance and optical selectivity of the coating. Furthermore, considering potential manufacturing tolerances, the impact of variations in layer thickness on performance was analyzed using Monte Carlo simulations. This sensitivity study utilized a Randomize Quasi-Monte Carlo (RQMC) method with Sobol sequences to explore a high-dimensional parameter space, ensuring that the theoretical designs remain robust against the minor deviations inherent in industrial thin-film deposition processes. Finally, the study evaluated how much haze formation and performance deviation would occur as the surface roughness of the layers in the optimum design increases. This investigation was conducted through a three-tier analytical approach to distinguish between the scattering effects at the top surface and the phase distortions occurring at buried interfaces. By applying Debye-Waller theory and advanced scattering models, the research meticulously examined the transition from specular to diffuse reflectance and transmittance. This detailed assessment also considered the light-trapping mechanisms within the multi-layered structure, providing critical insights into how surface morphology influences the visual clarity and the long-term radiative efficiency of the developed transparent cooling coatings. In addition, cost and energy analysis was conducted to determine the effects of the coating in terms of real world application. According to analysis, it was shown that optimum inorganic multilayer design on glass surface could reduce the thermal laod from 1000 W/m2 to 456 W/m2. Consequently, this optimization leads to 41% reduction in annual cooling costs. This study indicated that the proposed coating efficiently decreases carbon footprint and energy demand.
